Who is Eligible
The Visually Impaired Center is a private, non-profit agency that offers vision rehabilitation services to residents of Genesee, Lapeer and Shiawassee counties who are legally blind, have low vision, or experiencing functional or progressive vision loss.
Legal blindness is defined as having central visual acuity of 20/200 or worse with corrective lenses, or having a peripheral field of vision that is restricted to a diameter of 20 degrees or less. Low vision is defined as having a central visual acuity of 20/70 or less with corrective lenses. People with functional vision problems as a result of stroke, diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, closed head injuries, or other medical conditions are also eligible for services.
Parents, family members, friends, and professionals who live and work with people who have developed a vision loss are always welcome too.
